Chocolate Hazelnut Swirls

makes: 10 swirls
prep: 10 minutes

(remove the puff pastry from the freezer an hour before)
cook Time: 20-25 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate hazelnut spread

  • Coconut sugar for sprinkling

  • Pearled sugar for sprinkling (optional)

RECIPE

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out with a rolling pin to smooth any creases and create a sizable rectangle approximately 12×18 inches. The edges don’t need to be perfectly straight, as we will cut them later.

Evenly spread the chocolate hazelnut spread over the entire surface of the puff pastry sheet using a spoon or a knife, leaving a small border along the edges (approximately 1/2 inch).

Take one short side of the dough and fold it inward, then fold the other short side over the folded portion, creating a three-layer thick dough.

Carefully roll the dough again to eliminate any bubbles, being cautious not to squeeze out the filling.

Use a knife to slice a 1 inch strips of dough off each width-side .

Slice your dough, creating 1 inch 8-10 strips.

Use your index and middle finger to gently pinch and squeeze the edge of a strip.

Twist the dough strip several times, creating a braiding effect, then wrap it around itself and tuck it at the bottom, so it pops through the whole and back at the top.

Place each completed swirl on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring at least 2 inches of space between each swirl.

Repeat the process with each remaining strip.

Bake for 20 minutes or until your swirls doubled in size and have a golden brown color.

Serve as a perfect afternoon snack, or sweet after dinner treat.

Enjoy!

Bon appétit!
